Have You Looked Away?

Luke 18:16-17 TLB Then Jesus called the children over to him and said to the disciples, “Let the little children come to me! Never send them away! For the Kingdom of God belongs to men who have hearts as trusting as these little children’s. And anyone who doesn’t have their kind of faith will never get within the Kingdom’s gates.”

Last week-end my husband and I went to the meat market. As we stepped in, a wide-eyed little girl came walking up to us carrying a half-eaten piece of cheese. Her hair was pulled back into a ponytail and her long dark lashes fluttered at us. She handed the cheese out to me as if to share, and then thought better of it. She then turned and skipped back to her mommy.

As we checked out, her mom got in line behind us. It was a rather small space and her little head came up just past my knees. Several more people walked in and were all standing around her as she lost track of her mother.  We turned to walk out and I happened to look down at her. Suddenly she looked up and realized I wasn’t her mommy. In fact, none of these people were her mommy. I could see her eyes cloud over with panic as she looked up from face to face searching for someone familiar. “Sweetie, your mommy is right there”, I comforted. She caught the eye of her mom and once again peace came over her face.

Have you ever looked up from your life only to realize that nothing around you is familiar? Everything you thought you could count on is gone. You wonder where God is and why He has left you in such a mess.

Perhaps it’s you that has lost sight of God. Maybe you have stepped away from Him, busy with your own concerns. Now you realize you are alone and surrounded by confusion and fear.

The good news is, God hasn’t left you. He is right by your side. Just look up, and reach out for Him.  Like a child, put your whole trust in your Heavenly Father that He will hold you, guide you, and protect you. Without this childlike faith, we cannot accept Him for who He truly is.
