Colossians 3:12-17 (MSG)
12-14 So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.
15-17 Let the peace of Christ keep you in tune with each other, in step with each other. None of this going off and doing your own thing. And cultivate thankfulness. Let the Word of Christ—the Message—have the run of the house. Give it plenty of room in your lives. Instruct and direct one another using good common sense. And sing, sing your hearts out to God! Let every detail in your lives—words, actions, whatever—be done in the name of the Master, Jesus, thanking God the Father every step of the way.
This morning I was lying in bed asking God what I should share with you this morning. He laid on my heart the word, “moods”. I think many women deal with moodiness. And, as a woman who lives with three men, I can tell you that men also deal with moodiness! So, it seems to be universal.
However, it is not God’s plan that we be ruled by our emotions or our moods. God desires for us to rule over our emotions. It’s important to be in tune with the Lord, the voice of the Holy Spirit, and what He is saying to us. He speaks to His children, and we must train our ears to hear Him. Moods are fleeting; UNLESS, we allow them to take root and rule our lives.
For many years I allowed my moods and emotions to have control of my life. I was fueled by “feelings”. I was also a very bitter, unhappy, and depressed person. Look. We have choices in life. If we have chosen to follow to Christ, then we need to follow the teachings of the Word of God. We are instructed to be full of compassion, kindness, quiet strength, and discipline. We are to forgive QUICKLY, and not to stomp off in anger doing what we want to do.
Are we going to be moody from time to time? Yes! Sometimes things just happen, or sometimes physical issues cause us to be emotional. BUT, we do not have to plant ourselves in that place and allow negativity to take root.
Okay? So, let’s stop being emotional beings and become Spiritual beings allowing Christ to rule rather than our moods.
